22. Brickyard Point Trail 0.75
miles
The Brickyard Point and Tidewater Farm
Trails are part of a future Presumpscot
River Estuary Trail stretching from the
mouth of the Presumpscot River at Portland
Trails' “Brickyard Point” through Tidewater
Farm to Maine Audubon's Gilsland Farm Nature
Center .
Brickyard Point is a 14-acre peninsula
isolated by I-295 and Skitterygusset Creek.
The parcel is currently accessible only
by boat. Paddlers can put in at Walton
Park and paddle downstream to Brickyard
Point. Trails loop around the property
and allow stunning views of the estuary
and the Portland skyline. In 2008 Portland
Trails will construct a bridge over Skitterygusset
Creek, allowing hikers to access to the
property via Tidewater Farm. Visit www.trails.org
for updated information. Portland Trails
has partnered with the Maine Island Trail
Association to make Brickyard Point a stop
on their coastal waterway trail.
Tidewater Farm is an historic saltwater
farm which has recently been developed.
A large portion of the land is now protected
by the Tidewater Conservation Foundation.
The trail connects Clearwater Drive to
Skitterygussset Creek, offering sweeping
views of the Presumpscot River Estuary
and a rustic path through thick woods. |
